Liverpool are currently in a gruelling title race and have a Champions League last-16 tie against Bayern Munich to deal with. However, thinking about squad planning for the upcoming seasons wouldn’t be a bad shout as the summer window is only four months away.
If we look at Jurgen Klopp’s squad, they have depth in the midfield but the Reds do require a reliable centre-back and a striker. In relation to the latter, Daniel Sturridge is into his final months of the contract, and it wouldn’t be a surprise if Divock Origi leaves Anfield in the summer.
With Dominic Solanke being sold to Bournemouth in the January window, Liverpool could potentially have no striker other than their famous front three in the lead-up to the start of next season. Hence, it is vital that they dip in the market and sign a goal-scorer, who can play an impact sub role or play alongside Sadio Mane, Mohamed Salah and Roberto Firmino.
Here are the two options Klopp and his men can look into:
According to a report in the Mirror (h/t Messaggero), Liverpool had Lazio striker Ciro Immobile as a target in the January window. Klopp even sent scouts to watch the 28-year-old when he played against Napoli a few weeks back.
Hence, it is clear that the Reds would have plenty of information about the playing style of the Italian. In short, the former Dortmund man is a proper number nine who can lead the line, run the channels, make probing runs and finish the chances lethally in and around the box.
The Premier League giants do require a striker who can either play with the other three forwards or be an impact substitute in moments of need. Their chances of challenging on all fronts might get enhanced by bringing Immobile to Anfield.
It might be a weird choice but having an experienced Premier League striker wouldn’t be a bad thing for Liverpool. Vardy has been one of the top marksmen in the league for the past few years and his goal-scoring prowess hasn’t dipped one bit.
The Englishman hasn’t got the returns this season, partly due to the slow-approach playing system of Claude Puel. The Reds should lure the 2016 title winner to the Merseyside.

Vardy is a perfect striker when a team is playing on the counter and possess the ability to press high. Funnily enough, Liverpool can do both and terrorise teams. Hence, the 32-year-old could relish the final years of his career at Anfield.
