According to a report in Evening Standard, Chelsea are planning to send defender Fikayo Tomori on loan this season to another Premier League club after learning that Kurt Zouma is happy to stay at Stamford Bridge.
Tomori was a superstar in his previous loan spell at Derby County during the course of the 18/19 season. He was also their Player of the Year in an unforgettable campaign in the Championship.
The England U21 international is highly rated by current Chelsea manager Frank Lampard, who was his boss when he was at Pride Park (h/t Evening Standard). However, he is unlikely to get enough playing time in a blue shirt, at least during the upcoming season.
For that reason, the club want him to go out on loan to another Premier League club and test his skills at a higher level as compared to last season. (h/t Evening Standard)
Here are two clubs who should take note of this situation and make a move for the defender:
Burnley have two very good centre-backs in James Tarkowski and Ben Mee. However, they do not possess much beyond that. Ben Gibson was signed last summer to provide cover for that position but the former Middlesbrough man has struggled during his time at Turf Moor.
It would make sense for Sean Dyche’s men to look at the possibility of signing Fikayo Tomori on loan from Chelsea. The youngster is a very good player, who is capable of challenging for a regular spot and increasing the competition in the central defensive department.
Tomori’s ability to play at right-back, if required, could also come in handy for the Clarets.
Marco Silva’s men are interested in signing Zouma from Chelsea this summer (h/t Football London) but that still hasn’t come to fruition. Now, they should focus on signing Fikayo Tomori, even if it is for a one-year loan spell.
The youngster has the propensities to challenge Michael Keane and Yerry Mina for the centre-back position and is also capable of playing at right-back if required.
Thus, it would make sense for Everton to sign Tomori this summer and give him enough game time to prove himself on the big stage.
