Having Spent Over £150m It Would Be A Blunder For Man United To Pursue This £48m Star

Rise Of A French Superstar? – Why Manchester United Should Stick With Martial And Drop Their Interest In Ivan Perisic

Manchester United are one of the busiest clubs in the transfer window this summer as they have been looking to add some of the finest players in Europe to their squad for the new campaign. They have already spent over £150m on their squad but are in no mood to slow down as Jose Mourinho is still looking for some additions this summer.

They have lost two of their most influential attackers this summer in Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Wayne Rooney and though they have spent on Romelu Lukaku from Everton, they are still searching for attacking options and one name extensively and continually linked with a move to Old Trafford is that of Inter Milan star Ivan Perisic’s.

The Croatian international has been at the top of the transfer wish list for Mourinho since the start of the transfer window but Manchester United have had a bid £41m+ add-ons rejected for his services a couple of weeks ago. United have been monitoring his situation ever since but have not seen any progress until today, when latest reports suggest that the Serie A giants have now set a deadline for the Red Devils if they want to sign the Croatian star.

According to Italian news outlet Tuttosport, Inter Milan want Manchester United to meet their valuation of the player (£48m) or offer £42m and let the exciting French attacker Anthony Martial join the Italian side on a loan.

Known for his impressive dribbling and finishing abilities, the 21-year old joined Manchester United a couple of summers ago. But he has failed to establish himself in the first team under Jose Mourinho, making just 25 league appearances, most of them from the bench.

His return of 4 goals and 6 assists is not too impressive but at his age, he is still learning the game and will only get better with more game time under his belt. Mourinho is worried that he is not ready for the highest stage and wants an established star like Ivan Perisic, who has 57 international appearances and more than 200 senior appearances in top flight football in Europe.

However, the 28-year old Croatian is yet to play a single game in England and he might take time to settle in and may not be the immediate solution to the problems at Manchester United.

Perisic’s attributes are tailor-made for United’s style of play but they will be making a mistake if they let Marital leave and get Perisic in his place. They are better off trying to develop the French youngster and have him play a season or two as an understudy to Perisic, which will be a more productive move for the Red Devils.
