“Gutted”, “Bad day at the office”: Some Chelsea fans react to 2-1 loss vs Man City + Match Report

Chelsea vs Manchester City report: Chelsea match report

Chelsea’s six-game winning run in the Premier League came to an end at the Etihad Stadium as they were beaten 2-1 by Manchester City on Saturday.

The Blues made a strong start as Tammy Abraham pushed forward and set up Willian, who dragged his effort wide. Abraham then bent an effort wide from the edge of the box before defender Fikayo Tomori came mightily close to give the visitors the lead.

In the 22nd minute, N’Golo Kante scored after Mateo Kovacic set him up with a stunning pass. Kante was played through on goal and he squeezed an effort past the returning Ederson, despite pressure from Benjamin Mendy.

But Manchester City responded in less than 10 minutes with Kevin De Bruyne’s deflected strike. They then took the lead in the 36th minute, thanks to Riyad Mahrez, who fired in after a fantastic run through the Chelsea defence.

Pep Guardiola’s side might have put the game to bed before half time when Kepa horrifically mis-hit a clearance straight to Sergio Aguero, only for the Argentinean to hit the crossbar with his effort.

Fernandinho had to be at his best to deny the visitors a leveller almost 10 minutes after the restart, with the Brazilian blocking Kante’s goal-bound effort from 12 yards.

Cesar Azpilicueta then blocked a shot from Joao Cancelo off the line as the hosts pressed to seal the deal, with Kepa also forced into a save from second-half substitute Phil Foden.

At the other end, Willian’s delightful volley from the edge of the box forced Ederson into a fine save with 10 minutes remaining. But City held firm and almost scored a third, with Sterling’s 93rd-minute effort chopped off by VAR.
