Predicted Manchester City Line-up To Face Leicester City In The Carabao Cup
Manchester City extended their winning run to a record 16 games last weekend as a 4-1 thrashing of Tottenham Hotspur helped them keep their distance at the top of the Premier League points table.
They don’t look like dropping points any time soon and now shift their focus to the Carabao Cup as they visit the King Power Stadium to face Leicester City in the quarterfinals of the competition this mid-week.
Pep Guardiola will settle for nothing but a win. However, a rejuvenated Leicester have the ability to halt City’s non-stop run. The match could well go down to the wire, and who knows, penalties could be needed to separate the two teams, just like how City overcame a resilient Wolves side in the previous round of the competition.
Benjamin Mendy is set to be sidelined for the majority of the campaign with an unfortunate ACL injury. Skipper Vincent Kompany is injured again and was taken off at half-time during the Manchester derby.
John Stones, who is out with a hamstring injury, is set to resume light training next week, while David Silva, who missed the game against Spurs for personal reasons, should be rested.
Probable Man City XI
Manager: Pep Guardiola
Claudio Bravo (GK)
The Chile international should start in goal against the Foxes.
Tosin Adarabioyo (RCB)
The Mancunian defender has made 2 appearances – one each in EFL Cup and Champions League, and should start against the Foxes.
The Brazilian has been exceptional for City this season but should start the game as a centre-back.
Eliaquim Mangala (LCB)
The forgotten Frenchman was transfer listed in the summer but City’s failure to offload him has handed him one last opportunity to save his career here at Etihad. He has done a decent job so far and is expected to deliver a commanding display in defence.
Phil Foden (LWB)
Fresh from grabbing the BBC Young Sports Personality of the Year, Foden could be in for a start, not in midfield, but at left-back.
Given Kyle Walker’s brilliant form, Danilo has not got enough chances to play. Well, the Carabao Cup quarterfinals could be one.
Yaya Toure (CM)
Toure has been a benchwarmer for most of this season. The bulky Ivorian would look to dictate the tempo of the game from midfield.
Ilkay Gundogan (CM)
Scored a bullet-header against Spurs and showcased his elusive quality with distribution and passing. A sure-shot starter.
Oleksandr Zinchenko (LW)
Zinchenko is an upcoming talent at City and will be hoping to play a part for the visitors.
Bernardo Silva (RW)
We haven’t got too many chances to see Silva so far this season. In the limited opportunities he’s received so far, he has shown the quality that he possesses.
Gabriel Jesus (ST)
Jesus is expected to the lead line and take on the likes of Maguire and Morgan in this crunch clash.
