Predicted Manchester City Lineup To Face Liverpool In The Premier League

Manchester City travel to Anfield on Sunday to face Liverpool in a high-octane Premier League encounter. Pep Guardiola’s men have maintained a perfect unbeaten record so far and they will look to continue the same against the Reds. When they met earlier this season, City thrashed Liverpool 5-0 but a lot has changed for Jurgen Klopp’s men since then and it will be interesting to see how they fare against each other this time.

Team News

Gabriel Jesus will be out for a month or two after sustaining a knee ligament injury. Vincent Kompany is edging closer to a return but he may not feature against Liverpool. Meanwhile, Phil Foden and Benjamin Mendy continue to be injured. Besides that, Guardiola does not have any fresh injury concerns.

Probable Manchester City XI

Formation: 4-3-3

Manager: Pep Guardiola

Ederson Moraes (GK)

Ederson has easily been one of the best keepers in the league this season and his influence in goal will be important to keep a meaty Liverpool attack at bay.

Kyle Walker (RB)

The sturdy Kyle Walker should start at right-back. He has been a really good signing for Manchester City and there’s no reason why Pep wouldn’t start the expensive Englishman in this high-profile clash.

Nicolas Otamendi (CB)

The prolific centre-back is expected to be in the lineup against Liverpool. His defensive prowess will come in handy against the Reds.

Nicolas Otamendi

John Stones (CB)

Stones works quite well with Otamendi and Guardiola should deploy him alongside the Argentine defender.

Fabian Delph (LB)

Danilo played in this position against Bristol City and was a massive let-down. Hence, Guardiola could bring Delph back to his usual role on Sunday.

Fernandinho (DM)

Fernandinho has been one of City’s most influential players in the midfield area. He can make some incisive attacking runs ahead while also putting up solid defensive displays. A sure starter.

David Silva (CM)

Silva is City’s midfield maestro. He can dictate the play like nobody’s business and often uses his little tricks to get the ball forward.

Kevin De Bruyne (CM)

Along with Silva and Fernandinho, De Bruyne has also proven to be one of City’s most reliable and he will start on Sunday.

Raheem Sterling

Leroy Sane (LW)

Sane’s pace and goalscoring exploits have established him as one of the Premier League’s most promising young talents and Guardiola should hand him a start against Liverpool. In fact, he scored a brace against them in their previous encounter and it will be interesting to see what he does in this one.

Raheem Sterling (RW)

If Sane has been earning accolades on the left, Sterling has been in stellar form for City on the right. His precision and speed will come in handy against Liverpool’s defenders.

Sergio Aguero (CF)

With Jesus out, Aguero will start up front and this will be a good opportunity for him to get his name on the scoresheet.
