“Great performance boys”, “Earned it today!”: Some Everton fans react to 0-0 draw vs Chelsea + Match report

Chelsea 0-0 Everton: Toffees play out a goalless draw at Stamford Bridge

Chelsea missed a chance to return to the top of the Premier League at least for few hours as they were held to a goalless draw against Everton at Stamford Bridge.

In a scrappy typical intense clash, Maurizio Sarri’s men had to wait for an awful lot of time to strike the first effort on target against a rigid and well-organised Everton team.

The game got more fervent after the break when Alvaro Morata was denied by Jordan Pickford before Gylfi Sigurdsson stung the palms of Chelsea keeper Kepa Arrizabalaga. Marcos Alonso, who brought out an impressive save from the Everton shot-stopper, hit the bar with an outside of the boot effort just from the edge of the box.

Eden Hazard wasn’t at his best but kept trying throughout the game, probing at the Toffees defence at every step forward. Morata had a couple of chances to open the scoring but he was adjudged offside on a few occasions, much to the frustration of the Spaniard.

Everton were tight at the back, not allowing space in between the lines for the Blues midfielders to operate. They were also very adept in thwarting the physical threat of the home team, thanks to Michael Keane and Yerry Mina.

Though Marco Silva’s men didn’t offer much on the counter-attack apart from small periods, they were a determined bunch in repelling the opposition attacks; anything going forward was a bonus.

This result puts Chelsea at third place as Liverpool grab the second spot. On the other hand, Everton remain at 9th place with 19 points from 12 games, two points ahead of 10th-placed Leicester City.

Here’s how the fans of the away team reacted after a positive result:
