“Goodbye Poch”, “Season over”: Some Tottenham fans furious after 2-1 loss to Leicester City + Match Report

Tottenham vs Leicester City report: Tottenham match report

Tottenham’s eight-month-long wait for a Premier League away win continued after a controversial 2-1 loss at Leicester City on Saturday.

James Maddison’s fine strike completed the comeback for Leicester after they went 1-0 down, but Tottenham were left to rue the intervention of VAR after throwing away a winning position for the second time this week.

The Lilywhites faced a tricky trip to the King Power after letting a 2-0 lead slip to Olympiakos to draw 2-2 in the Champions League in midweek and defeat here was their third in seven league matches this season.

Mauricio Pochettino’s side were the beneficiaries of a first-half VAR call when Wilfried Ndidi’s scramble across the line was ruled out because, on review, it was clear that Ayoze Pere, who had chased the ball down to create the chance was offside. It was a moment of sheer determination and excellence from Harry Kane that broke the deadlock soon after.

Kane somehow managed to not only keep his feet but take the ball past Jonny Evans after being nudged in the back, and then manufacture a finish past the onrushing Kasper Schmeichel. Leicester responded with Jamie Vardy going close on the counter-attack before Son Heung-Min missed an excellent chance to give Spurs some breathing space.

Then came a far more controversial VAR intervention, as Serge Aurier’s deflected strike was ruled out after Son was deemed to be offside in the build-up. The Foxes took advantage of their amnesty almost immediately, when Ricardo Pereira arrived to meet Vardy’s half-cleared cross and sidefoot home.
