Goodbye Herrera – Man Utd must go all out to sign this 31-goal midfield dynamo as a replacement and here’s why

Manchester United opinion: Two replacements for Ander Herrera

It’s a massive summer transfer window for many of the Premier League sides with rebuilding jobs everywhere. Manchester United are definitely one of the sides in need of massive transfer window after a disastrous campaign that saw them finish in 6th place last season.

They’ve made two exciting signings in Aaron Wan-Bissaka from Crystal Palace and Daniel James from Swansea. Wan-Bisakka is seen as a replacement for the departed Antonio Valencia but many will believe that United haven’t had a right-back since Gary Neville retired many years ago.

James is more of a diamond in the rough, who’s got great potential, devastating speed and is already a Wales international. However, he still has a long way to go and is a prospect for the future.

United need more immediate reinforcements with Ander Herrera having left the club for Paris Saint-Germain on a free transfer.

Herrera was a great servant for the Red Devils in his 5 years at the club. He was known for his selfless displays in the midfield and had become a real fan-favourite at Old Trafford. He was also great for Ole Gunnar Solskjaer and a replacement will be very necessary for the coming days.

Two players have been heavily linked with United in Bruno Fernandes and Sergej Milinkovic-Savic.

Neither of them is exactly like Herrera in their profile but were the kind of midfielders United needed even before Herrera’s departure. They’re both mostly known for the attacking side to their game.

Let’s have a look at who might be a better fit.

Sergej Milinkovic-Savic

Savic’s primary strengths are his aerial ability, which allows teams to build from long passes. He’s also two-footed and can play in a deeper role or an attacking role. His passing ability and shooting from long distance is also a great facet to his game.

Last season he was played in a slightly deeper role and got 7 goals and 3 assists in all competitions for Lazio.

Bruno Fernandes

The Portuguese international is fresh off a Nations League championship and had the season of a lifetime. Fernandes had an incredible season, having scored 31 goals in all competitions last season along 12 assists.

His best attributes are his tireless running, his ability to shoot from range and that he is two-footed like Savic.

Conclusion

Ideally, United would be looking at buying both and they could both work together wonderfully but Savic’s strong resemblance to Pogba’s style would not help form a better team.

Fernandes would give greater balance and would form a phenomenal midfield with lots of attacking potential.
