Three Reasons Why Fraizer Campbell Is A Good Signing For Hull City
Having been released by Crystal Palace at the end of last season, Hull City have moved to re-sign their former front man Fraizer Campbell.
The 29-year-old played for the Tigers back in the 2007-2008 season, scoring 15 times to help them win promotion from the Championship while on loan from Manchester United. The former England hopeful scored just once last season in his 13 games for Palace before being released at the end of June.
Here we look at three reasons why Campbell’s signing can prove to be a good move for the Championship new boys this season.
His Experience
Campbell is 29 now and has been around the block a bit. Spells at Manchester United and Tottenham saw him train with some of the best players around and that can only be a good thing for Hull’s younger forwards to tap into.
The striker has appeared more than 260 times in first team games and so the Championship should hold no fears for him, a league he has had some experience of in the past.
Knowledge Of The Club
Although he played only 34 games in his previous spell, it’s important that Campbell knows his way around the KCOM Stadium and understands what the Hull supporters demand. His most successful goal scoring season in England was spent with Hull, when he bagged 7 league goals in a promotion season. Good memories, I’m sure.
Premier League Pedigree
Although his goal scoring record looks quite poor on paper, he has played in the Premier League to one degree or another, in every one of the last ten seasons. This represents his first permanent step down in class since his young age.
His loan season at Hull brought him 7 goals in 34 , while he scored an impressive 7 in 12 for Cardiff in this division. So when determined to succeed in the Premier League, it seems he is much more successful at this level. Campbell had a prolific spell in Belgium at Antwerp in 2006/07, netting 21 times in 31 league games having trained alongside some world class strikers at Man United.
Whatever level of success Campbell enjoys in the upcoming season at Hull, signing him for free naturally represents excellent value, though I’m sure, the fans would like to see the owners reinvesting some of the Harry Maguire money.
