Can Everton Challenge For A Top-4 Finish Next Season

The Toffees have seen a significant rise in their performances since the beginning of last season with the appointment of Ronald Koeman. The Dutch manager has completely transformed the Merseyside side club and also came very close to achieving a top-4 last season. However, he did manage to qualify for the Europa League.

Having witnessed the progress that Everton have made in a such a short time under the Dutch manager, the chances of the club challenging for a Champions League spot next season is very likely. Although it might seem like a tough task to accomplish, with the likes Manchester City, Manchester United, and Liverpool in the mix, from what we have seen in the last couple seasons, anything is possible in the Premier League.

So let’s take a look at few reasons why Everton are well capable of challenging for the Champions League positions in the upcoming Premier League season.

New players

Ronald Koeman made significant changes to the Everton squad last season, bringing in the likes of Morgan Schneiderlin, Idrissa Gueye, and Ashley Williams to the first team. Having started the season with the intention of qualifying for Europa League, Koeman and Everton did manage to achieve their goal along with the added incentive of playing attractive football. The Dutch manager also has a busy summer transfer window ahead, having already signed goalkeeper Jordan Pickford from Sunderland and Davy Klaassen from Ajax.

Everton

Ronald Koeman’s reliability

Having managed Southampton FC from 2014 to 2016, Koeman attained a significant amount knowledge about the Premier League. In the 91 games as the coach of Southampton, Koeman enjoyed 44 wins with a win percentage of 48%. Ideal for a top-4 finish I reckon?

Increased competition

Over the years, the Premier League has sprung quite a few surprises with small teams punching above their weight and taking on the giants of the League. Clubs like Leicester City have gone on to win the Premier League, proving that money and big names alone aren’t necessary to win the League. With small teams beating the top-4 clubs, teams like Everton have a very good chance of making it to the Champions League by the end of next season.

The consistent Toffees

Everton enjoyed a terrific start to the Premier League last season with 13 points from the first 5 games, which also included a four-match winning streak. The Merseyside club beat the likes Manchester City and Arsenal last season and also took points off Manchester United and Leicester. Although they had a bitter end to the season with a 3-1 defeat to Arsenal, they did manage a decent run of form during the first half of the season. A slight improvement in this should see them challenge for a spot in the top-4.
