Good Job, Christiansen – Signing Adam Forshaw Could Be An Incredible Move By Leeds United

Leeds United are a hard side to work out at the moment. At times, Thomas Christiansen’s side have looked unplayable, especially in front of the formidable Elland Road crowd. However, there have also been times when they occasionally looked like they would be back in the Premier League sooner rather than later.

However, the table doesn’t lie and they currently sit seven places outside the playoffs on a bad run of form with no wins in five games. The signing of Adam Forshaw from direct promotion rivals Middlesborough could be the turnaround they needed in order to ensure a playoff place at the minimum.

Forshaw has made 14 appearances for Boro this season and although he has not played much under Tony Pulis, there is no denying that he has a lot of pedigree. In fact, the player made 34 appearances in the Premier League last year. He is a strong, defensive-minded midfielder who can score the occasional cracker.

Since Pulis came in at Boro, they have been using Grant Leadbitter at the base of a midfield trio. This doesn’t really suit Forshaw’s natural style,  which is part of the reason he has been out of the team. For the most part, he does not seem to fit the no-nonsense, gritty type of football that Pulis is known for playing.

However, at Leeds United, he could clearly add a different dimension to their team. They currently play a 4-2-3-1 with Eugene O’Kane and Kalvin Phillips making up the base of midfield. It is often their job to start off attacks as well as break up the work of the opposition, which is a style that Forshaw will be much more used to from his days at Brentford.

It is also clear that he can be considered an upgrade on the players that currently play for Leeds in those positions, thus meaning it will be likely that he will improve the performance of Leeds as a whole.

If Forshaw manages to make a positive contribution to Leeds’ potential return to the Premier League for the first time in years, then £4.5 million will be an almighty bargain for the men in white. Of course, while the prices for players go up across the world, an English talent from a direct rival at £4.5million looks like good value.

Leeds are one of the biggest clubs in England and the fans are desperate for a return to the top-flight and if Adam Forshaw helps them get there, he will go down as an Elland Road legend.
