Three Transfers That Huddersfield Town Should Complete In January

Huddersfield Town’s tryst with the English top-flight has gotten off to a remarkably great start. David Wagner’s side have lost just three of their opening nine games, and are currently gracing the 11th spot in the league table. Not just that, they also registered a stellar 2-1 victory against powerhouse side Manchester United. Next, they face Liverpool and will be intent on notching up a similar result.

However, some new additions are still needed in the squad if they are to become a strong Premier League unit. Undoubtedly, they will strengthen in January, with Wagner admitting he has some names on his wishlist.

Thus, let’s take a look at some potential ins and outs for Huddersfield Town in of the January window.

IN: Kenneth Zohore – Cardiff City

With Steve Mounie and Laurent Depoitre having been bought in the summer, it’s clear Wagner believes he needs a big man up front.

Zohore was a Hull City and Brighton & Hove Albion transfer target in the summer, but Cardiff held on to him. He is only 23 years of age, and would perfectly complement the playmakers who would play off him in the Terriers’ 4-2-3-1. Persuading Cardiff to sell him may be quite tough but considering what Zohore could bring to the squad, Huddersfield should consider it as he’d be an upgrade on what they’ve got right now.

OUT: Dean Whitehead

In his prime, Whitehead was a solid player to have in the side but with Huddersfield embarking on a new challenge in the Premier League, the central midfielder has failed to add any sort of value. He has hardly made an appearance for the club so far. Now aged 35, he is well past that prime and surely Huddersfield could do with someone a little younger and sharper.

Whilst his experience can provide a voice in the dressing room, he has not made an impact on the field and that is where it really matters. Hence, Whitehead could be off-loaded by Huddersfield in January.

Tom Cairney

IN: Tom Cairney – Fulham

Often adjudged the best midfielder in the Championship, Cairney has been influential in Fulham’s successes. He may find it hard to turn down an offer from the Premier League side to fuel his own ambitions.

Although Cairney wouldn’t come cheap, he will be able to play in central midfield or anywhere across the attacking three in a 4-2-3-1. Thus, he could be a vital addition and it would be a surprise if he doesn’t play Premier League football sooner than later.
