Go for it Silva – Everton could strike gold with the signing of this out of favour Arsenal star

Why signing Danny Welbeck will be an ideal move for Everton

Everton, one of England’s most esteemed clubs, had a massively underwhelming campaign last season as their summer splurge under former boss Ronald Koeman did not work out at all.

The Toffees eventually clinched a top-half finish, following the appointment of veteran Sam Allardyce. However, the football he introduced at Goodison Park received stern criticism.

The Englishman, too, was shown the door upon completion of the 2017/18 season and former Hull City and Watford gaffer Marco Silva has been appointed to fix things up for the Merseysiders.

Everton, meanwhile, are yet to strike any significant deal but are chasing multiple targets simultaneously. They are reportedly closing in on signing Arsenal forward Danny Welbeck, who has entered the final year of his contract at Emirates.

Welbeck, 27, joined the Gunners back in 2014 but he has struggled to settle in due to persistent injury woes. The Three Lions star has returned only 27 goals in 112 games since completing his switch from Manchester United and has never secured a regular role due to his poor conversion rate.

Arsene Wenger, the iconic Arsenal boss, deployed Welbeck down the left flank last season which earned him some success.

However, Unai Emery’s appointment as the new Emirates chief has further jeopardized the forward’s future in North London. With Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette set to spearhead the Gunners’ attack, the odds are quite high for Welbeck to follow Theo Walcott’s footsteps and join Everton.

Gylfi Sigurdsson was mostly deployed down the left-wing which prevented him from featuring in his preferred attacking midfield role. However, the inclusion of Welbeck should now allow the Iceland international to shift to his usual slot, paving way for the Englishman to operate as a wide forward.

Silva also requires depth higher up the pitch and utilizing the Gunners’ star alongside Cenk Tosun will be a viable option.

Amid no news of a new contract at Emirates, Welbeck could be roped in a cut-price deal and he should provide the Toffees with a massive uplift next season.
