Go for it Rodgers – Celtic must surely sign Tottenham’s 28-goal starlet this summer

Celtic are monitoring the situation of Tottenham Hotspur youngster Reo Griffiths, according to Football.London. 

Griffiths has been making huge waves with some scintillating displays for the Spurs’ Under-18 sides this campaign. The forward, who turns eighteen in a month’s time, has been on the radar of a number of clubs including La Liga winners Barcelona. Celtic too have thrown their hats in the ring to try and make a move for the prodigy.

Having started off his career at Leyton Orient, Griffiths switched to the Lilywhites and has been earning rave reviews throughout his time at the academy. Having been promoted to the U18s in 2016, the Englishman blasted in 14 goals in 24 appearances, setting up 9 more. However, in the 2017/18 season, the 17-year-old has taken his game to a whole new level.  

Griffiths managed to find the back of the net on a total of 28 occasions across all competitions this season, while also registering 4 assists in 32 appearances in all competitions, drawing comparisons with Tottenham’s talisman Harry Kane.

The forward hit 7 braces and 2 hat-tricks across all competitions this season before scoring four against the Arsenal U18s side and assisting three as Spurs thrashed their local rivals 9-0.

The 17-year-old has shown all the attributes needed to be a success at the top level. He is fast, strong and can tough it out physically against defenders. Throw in his brilliant finishing abilities and the killer instincts in front of goal, Griffiths has the potential to be a major success if he applies himself properly. 

Celtic’s success story with striker Moussa Dembele last season is well professed. The Scottish champions brought the Frenchman in on a free transfer after his contract expired with Fulham and the striker went on to become a huge hit, helping the Hoops to a domestic treble in his debut campaign.  

However, with Dembele’s future at the Parkhead surrounded by uncertainties, it makes sense that they are on the lookout for another young and dynamic centre-forward. Griffiths would fit the bill perfectly for Brendan Rodgers’ side.  

The England U-17 international has shown he can be a consistent source of goals operating as the striker but the fact that he can easily slot in on the wings makes him a valuable asset.

Considering the fact that he has captained the Spurs’ U-18 side on a number of occasions this season, he seems ready to take up more responsibility. 

While it is true that Griffiths is untested on the biggest stages, the kind of goalscoring form that he has shown is enough to gauge his immense potential and promise.

When a club as big as Barcelona takes an interest, there has to be something special about the player. Therefore, Celtic should try their best to sign Griffiths, as they could reap great rewards from his arrival, just like they did with Dembele.
