Two signings Celtic should look to make on January deadline day

Celtic for the first time in a long time may be looking enviously at their cross-city rivals. Rangers have made some solid moves to improve their squad during the January transfer window whereas it has been a much quieter window for The Bhoys.

Not that Celtic have to worry about anything in the league, they are 8 points clear of 2nd-placed Aberdeen and Rangers are a further 3 points behind. However, with Graeme Murty in charge, the Gers are certainly planning for the future and would hope to challenge Celtic once again. For Celtic to keep the chasing pack at arm’s length, they will need a couple of deadline day signings. If Brendan Rogers wants to stay ahead of the pack, this is who he will need.

Neven Subotic

The experienced Serbian defender would make a massive positive impact on a Celtic defence that has had it easy in the league. However, they have a big game coming up in the Europa League against Zenit St Petersburg. A player with the tactical nous of Subotic would make Celtic incredibly solid and he could bring some of his experience of European football to help the younger players prepare more effectively for the European games.

He is also out of favour at Dortmund. He has not featured since Dortmund came back after the winter break and he was loaned out before. Since the firing of Peter Bosz, the position of Subotic has been under threat, with many people linking Dortmund’s failures in the title race to the Serbian. It may be time for him to go and Glasgow would be a great destination for all involved.

Franco Di Santo

Schalke and former Wigan striker Franco Di Santo may well be another option that Brendan Rogers can look at. The impressive striker has been a key part of Schalke’s return to form this season, although he is not a true goalscorer. He contributes to attacks and would provide a different option to what Brendan Rogers currently has.

There is a talk that Franco Di Santo could be lined up in case there is a late bid for Celtic Star Moussa Dembele, who has been a revelation for the Hoops over the past few seasons. If that is the case, then that would put a lot of pressure on Franco Di Santo since Moussa Dembele has been one of the best players at Celtic in recent memory.
