Go for it Rafa – Newcastle signing this West Brom veteran would help them survive in the PL

Why Newcastle United should definitely bring in Chris Brunt

Newcastle United moved out of the relegation zone after picking up a much-needed victory against Bournemouth in the Premier League. But the Magpies have otherwise made a lacklustre start to their season under Rafa Benitez.

They have managed to score just 9 goals in the opening 12 games of the season and have struggled to find the back of the net consistently. The Magpies have also found it hard to create enough chances for their frontline.

Benitez did bring in a couple of signings in the summer but none has made a significant impact so far. The manager should certainly go back into the market when the transfer window reopens in a month’s time.

Newcastle should take a look at West Bromwich Albion midfielder Chris Brunt. He has been an ever-present in the Baggies team and possesses the kind of potential to help the Magpies find the goals regularly.

West Brom have looked good under Darren Moore this season but Brunt hasn’t particularly stood out this season. It could be because he has been played out of his preferred position. Brunt generally operates as a left-sided midfielder but most of his appearances this season have come as a central midfielder.

The Northern Irishman is otherwise a devastating presence down the wing. He possesses a gem a left foot capable of whipping dangerous crosses into the box. Brunt is known for his devilish deliveries.

The Newcastle strikers will definitely thrive off his supply. Brunt is very effective while charging down the flank and is also good at dragging defenders out of their position. Strikers like Salomon Rondon and Ayoze Perez will surely flourish playing alongside the West Brom midfielder.

Though he hasn’t made a great start to the season, Brunt has picked up 2 assists and has shown improved form over the last few weeks. He has also maintained a pass success rate of 80.2%, so the quality is still there. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

Newcastle United should definitely make a move for the 33-year-old. Though he may not prove to be a long-term option, he still possesses the quality to keep the Magpies afloat. Rafa Benitez can also go for a loan move instead of shelling out the funds.
