Go for it Pep – This Serie A midfield master would be the perfect replacement for the ageing Fernandinho

Why Manchester City should go all out for Napoli star Allan

Manchester City have once again romped to the top of the Premier League table under Pep Guardiola this season. The Cityzens are very much in contention to retain the league title this season but Liverpool are hot on their tail.

Pep Guardiola’s side have maintained their style of football and have looked even better this season. The manager further strengthened the squad by adding a few faces in the summer but he probably has to dive back into the market sooner than later.

The Cityzens haven’t yet found a replacement for Brazilian midfielder Fernandinho. The 33-year-old is undoubtedly the most essential player in their squad and has played a pivotal role under Guardiola. He has been in brilliant form at such a ripe age as well but surely, he can’t keep up for much longer.

Pep Guardiola should consider taking a look at Napoli’s Brazilian midfielder, Allan. The 27-year-old has been in fine form for the Serie A outfit this season.

He has also stepped up his level this season and now looks a more complete player under Carlo Ancelotti. Allan is lightning quick on the ball and possesses similar traits to that of Fernandinho. He’s surely got the potential to get better considering his rise to prominence this season.

Allan is a relentless runner on and off the ball, working very hard for the team in the middle of the park. He loves to press opposition players and trouble them throughout the game. The Brazilian is a hard man to get past as well.

He is also an able distributor and possesses a wide range of passing in his armoury. Allan has a pass success rate of 89.6% in the Serie A this season. He was in stunning form against Liverpool in the Champions League as well. (Stats courtesy – Whoscored)

Fernandinho

Surely, the midfielder will fit into Guardiola’s philosophy. He is a crisp passer of the ball and is very aware of his positioning, two traits that bode well under the Spanish manager. Allan is also capable of picking up assists given his passing ability, which the likes of Raheem Sterling, Sergio Aguero and Leroy Sane will all benefit from.

Manchester City should definitely make a move for Allan. From one Brazilian to another, he is the ideal long-term replacement for Fernandinho. Napoli will surely be reluctant to part ways with their star in January but Pep should go all out for the talented midfielder.
