Two Relegated Premier League Players Who Swansea City Should Sign This Summer
Swansea City managed to pull off a miraculous great escape and survive the Premier League relegation battle, despite being in the bottom three for large parts of the season.
Under Paul Clement, the Welsh outfit managed to recover well and produced some very good results in the run up to the end of the campaign. That coupled with Hull City’s troubles meant they survived and were able to finish 15th in the table with Hull, Middlesbrough, and Sunderland being the clubs that eventually endured the drop back to the Championship.
Having secured their top-flight status for another season, Swansea will need to work hard in the transfer market to bring in the right players in the window, so that they can put up a better showing next time around. To that end, here we come up with two players from the relegated clubs who Swansea should look to add to their ranks in the summer:
Kamil Grosicki (Hull City)
Polish winger Kamil Grosicki joined Hull in the January window and finished the season as one of their most important players under Marco Silva – such was the impact that the 28-year old had in his short time with the Tigers. Grosicki finished the season with 5 assists from 15 games and that tally could have been much better with better strikers to convert the chances. Able to play on either flank or through the middle, the Polish international has the ability to create goals in plenty and can chip in with a few goals himself.
With Gylfi Sigurdsson mostly on his way out, Swansea will need someone who will be able to fill in the giant boots left vacant by the Icelandic international. Grosicki may not be of the quality of the Swans’ two-time club Player of the Year, but he has got the ability to make some valuable contribution to the team.
Marten De Roon (Middlesbrough)
The 26-year old defensive midfielder was one of the better players for the relegated Teessiders this season and has attracted interests from various clubs as a result. Having arrived last summer from Atalanta, De Roon finished the season with 5 goals from 35 games in all competitions for Boro. A strong and an astute tackler, and a powerful header of the ball, the Dutchman is also known for his ability to read the game and make crucial interceptions.
With Leon Britton not getting any younger at 34, the Swans might need to look at bringing in a long-term replacement for the long-serving midfielder. De Roon fits the bill for the Welsh outfit. The Dutchman may not be a big name signing, but he will bring in an added steeliness to the midfield while contributing going forward as well.
