Go for it Nuno – Wolves signing this £30m Barcelona flop could be a massive statement of intent

He was not able to make it at one of the biggest clubs in the world. Slotted in as the replacement for the great Andres Iniesta can never be easy but Andre Gomes has had a few seasons to forget at the Nou Camp.

Ever since he moved to Barcelona, Gomes has rarely been able to replicate the performances that made him a hit at Valencia.

With rumours linking the £30m Gomes to Wolves, a move to the Premier League could actually be a great statement:

Marquee signing

Gomes would be a marquee signing for Wolves as they return to the Premier League. To be able to capture a player from Barcelona, who still has a lot of potential would mean that they are making a statement of intent.

Andre Gomes, while facing the ire of the Barcelona fans, would not have the same pressure at Wolves. This could help him find his touch once again that made him a sought-after midfielder two years back.

Premier League test

If Gomes wishes to win his place back in the national squad, then the Premier League is the best place for him to prove his credentials. It is physically demanding and Gomes knows that if he performs well here, he will be back in the reckoning.

Gomes has some great attributes that would make him perfect for the English game. He is good at winning aerial duels and his passing range is still way above the average Premier League midfielder.

The weight of expectations wrought him down at Barcelona and a move to the Molineux is all he needs to work his way up once again and perform to the levels that allowed him to become a star at Valencia.

The Portuguese player yet to hit his prime and despite his misgivings at the Catalan club, he has shown glimpses of his brilliance. It is evident that he is low on confidence and possibly just needs a change of scene.

For Wolves, it represents a great move because they will be able to sign a player who has been pitted to become one of the world’s best.
