Go for it Nuno Santo: Wolves signing Man United’s out of favour star could be a huge statement of intent

Why Wolverhampton Wanderers must sign Marcos Rojo from Manchester United

Premier League summer transfer window is closing soon and the transfer market should see a rise in the activity in the final few days. Marcos Rojo of Manchester United is a player who has been made available on the market, with Everton and Wolverhampton Wanderers being linked with the player.

Rojo has been on the fringes at Manchester United over the last 2 years and the Argentine defender is clearly not in Jose Mourinho’s plans for the new season.

Here’s why Wolves must sign Marcos Rojo to add strength to their team.

They need big names on the biggest stage

Wolverhampton Wanderers passed the promotion test in flying colours, where they finished on the top of the pile. Nuno Espirito Santo did a great job to outshine teams in the first division of English football, but English Premier League is a different test altogether.

Widely regarded as the most competitive league in the world football, the English top-flight is almost ruthless for the newcomers and Wolves will need to do well to survive.

Marcos Rojo

A sensible approach to surviving the big league is to acquire impactful big names. Thus, Wolves must do everything to sign a player with the experience and recognition that Marcos Rojo possesses. A big name lifts the morale in the dressing room and Wolves should try the same by signing Marcus Rojo.

Rojo could prove to be that calming and commanding presence at the back for Wolves which could help them in the times when they might be struggling at the top level of English football.

A quality player made available to sign

Although Rojo hasn’t been a regular starter for Manchester United in the last 2 years, he still is a quality player with significant experience at the top level. The Argentine defender has been a crucial player for his national team as he showed at the World Cup 2018 when he scored a crucial goal to help his national team survive another day in the tournament.

The fact that Manchester United have put Rojo on the transfer market should encourage Wolves to make a cut-price deal for the player.

Rojo is still 28 years old and it’s the ideal age for a defender to reach his peak. Thereby, if Wolves sign the Manchester United defender, they would be getting a player who has his best few years of career ahead of him.

The fact that Rojo is a versatile player also gives Wolves an added incentive to sign the player. The Manchester United defender is a ball playing defender who can also play as left back when needed and this is an important factor for Nuno Espirito Santo to consider.
