Go For It Mourinho – This £40m Midfielder Could Sit Back And Dictate The Play For Manchester United

Nemanja Matic

Why Nemanja Matic Is The Right Man For Manchester United Next Season

Manchester United failed to finish in the top-4 in Jose Mourinho’s first season in charge of the club but they managed to qualify for the Champions League, thanks to a victory in the Europa League final over Ajax. This means that United can land some of the finest stars in Europe this summer and the manager has already completed the signing of Swedish defender Victor Lindelof for next season.

However, Mourinho is desperate to improve other areas of the squad and one player who he is frantically looking at Serbian midfielder Nemanja Matic. The Red Devils spent a world record fee on Paul Pogba last summer but they now need an able partner who can get the best out of the Frenchman and Mourinho wants Matic’s experience in the midfield next season.

According to reports from a number of reliable sources, Mourinho is now frustrated and wants this deal completed by the end of the week. Matic could cost around £40m for the Red Devils and here is why he is the perfect option for the club next season.

Known for his strength an ability to pick passes from long distances, Matic is a genuine defensive midfielder who loves to sit back and act as the first line of the defence, deep in the midfield. He is dominant in the air and is not the best player to fight against in the midfield in a game.

With 123 league appearances over two stints at the Stamford Bridge, the 28-year old is one of the most experienced players in his position in the league and was instrumental in Chelsea lifting two league titles in the last three years.

He is the first choice for club and country at the moment, and has 32 national team appearances to his name, making him an established star. He scored a goal and 8 assists in 35 league games last season and having already worked under Mourinho, he should not have any difficulty in adjusting to the challenges at Old Trafford.

The Red Devils have Ander Herrera for this role in the squad at the moment while neither Marouane Fellaini nor Michael Carrick are expected to be the first choice for Mourinho. The manager has been looking for players who can fit in well into his system but with their particular requirements at the moment, Matic is their best bet.

He can sit back and dictate the tempo of the game, which will allow the likes of Pogba and Mkhitaryan to have a greater effect on the attacking side of the game, making United a far more potent attack next season.
