Three Signings That Would Massively Improve Watford Next Season

Watford had a disappointing campaign under Walter Mazzarri who replaced Quique Sanchez Flores last year and despite saving a relegation scare weeks back, the Hornets only managed to finish 17th in the league following consecutive defeats in their final six Premier League outings. Mazzarri was sacked following such dismal displays and now has been replaced by young Portuguese boss Marco Silva who received high acknowledgements for his impressive managerial skills, despite failing to save Hull City from being relegated. Watford made plenty of signings in the past two seasons after earning a promotion to top tier of English football, but they still lack the quality in a number of departments and are yet to establish themselves as a proper mid-table side who can challenge for a top-half finish.

Marco Silva is aware of Watford’s limitations and is expected to trim his side in order to reconstruct the squad and acquire a set of new resources. We have scouted three such names here, who are affordable, pragmatic and can improve Watford for the upcoming campaign.

Josh Tymon

The highly-rated Hull City teenager flourished under Marco Silva and is being monitored by a number of Premier League heavyweights. The 18-year old Englishman, however, is tipped to be reunited with his former boss as he holds a bright future ahead of him and would flourish under the young Portuguese tactician with more regular game-time compared to what he would get with Premier League big guns.

Jose Holebas, 32, struggled with his defensive skills in left-back role and is reportedly being targeted by Turkish giants Fenerbahce. Tymon, with his top flight experience, versatility as well as enormous potential, can be a very good solution for the Hornets and has exhibited all the attributes required to become a top-notch left-back for club and country. But as things stand, Watford must act fast to secure his services as a lot of clubs have been linked with a move Tymon.

Lazar Markovic

Liverpool outcast Lazar Markovic enjoyed a productive campaign for Hull City since his loan move back in January and Watford boss Marco Silva is reportedly keen to reunite with the 23-year old Serbian winger. Markovic is capable of playing on both the flanks and also as a central attacking midfielder. He will add new dimensions and flexibility up front in Watford’s attacking third. However, a number of clubs have already enquired about his availability and once again, Silva has to act quick.

Łukasz Teodorczyk

Watford require a marksman up front who can score at least 15 goals a season. Odion Ighalo, the Nigerian international, set the league on fire with his majestic scoring run in his maiden Premier League season. But the striker failed to replicate his form last year and completed a move to Chinese Super League side Changchun Yatai in January. Stefano Okaka, Isaac Success, and Jerome Sinclair failed to step up in his absence and skipper Troy Deeney needs a striking partner who can score goals.

Lukasz Teodorczyk, the Anderlecht forward, is enjoying a great scoring run for the Belgian First Division A champions as he netted 30 times in 53 appearances altogether. The Polish international was being targeted by a lot of teams, with English ones included but apparently, the interests have cooled off. This should drive Watford to making a go-ahead bid for this 26-year old goal-machine.
