Go For It Klopp – This £76m Brilliant Duo Could Help Liverpool To Challenge For The Title Next Season

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp

Liverpool Need To Complete The Signing Of This Duo This Summer And Here’s Why

Jurgen Klopp will be a frustrated man after his side dropped 3 crucial points from the home tie against Crystal Palace at the weekend. It definitely will affect their chances of European qualification but does not end their hopes completely. They still have a decent chance of finishing in the top-4 come the end of the season.

But the issues in the current squad makes it clear that Klopp has to spend big this summer to make his side compete with the best next season. This has seen the German manager get linked with some of the best players in Europe. Two such players who can make Liverpool genuine contenders for the title next season are Southampton’s £50m defender Virgil van Dijk and RB Leipzig’s £26m midfield powerhouse Naby Keita.

Both players are in great demand at the moment in Europe but there are very few clubs in the world that need the duo as badly as Liverpool do at the moment.

The Reds have a backline that has not shown any improvement in recent times. While summer buy Joel Matip has been decent, Dejan Lovren and his deputies – Ragnar Klavan and Lucas Leiva, have just not been able to deliver the goods this season and Klopp needs to address this issue if he is to get his side win those games that he lost this season.

Virgil Van Dijk
Virgil Van Dijk

Virgil van Dijk and his growing reputation will definitely solve this problem. For starters, the Dutch international is not prone to errors that the Liverpool line have made his season. He is strong in the air, athletic and his ability on the ball will also help Liverpool initiate attacks from the back.

But that is only a part of the problem at Anfield at the moment. The Reds also lack a genuine, hard-tackling defensive midfielder who is ready to do the dirty work and there are very few options in the transfer market to solve this problem. Guinea international Keita is one such option.

A relentless engine in the midfield, Keita is capable of playing the holding midfield role to perfection. He is strong and smart with his tackling and is more than capable of shutting shop when the game requires him to do so. He is a good player with possession of the ball and will by no means reduce the fluidity of the current Liverpool squad.

Naby Keita

Jordan Henderson and Emre Can are the only options in this position for Klopp at the moment and Keita will represent a significant improvement for Liverpool in this area.

Liverpool are expected to compete in four different competitions next season and will need all the depth they can acquire, to go the distance. So signing Naby Keita and Virgil van Dijk should be a priority for Jurgen Klopp, even if he looks to improve other areas of the squad. However, a lot will depend on Liverpool’s qualification for the Champions League next season.

Do you think Liverpool can land the duo this summer?
