A Wise Call? – Why Liverpool Should Sign Renato Sanches From Bayern Munich
Call it good fortune or fate’s favour to the Portuguese young gun – Renato Sanches is undoubtedly destiny’s child when it comes to the transfer window. The 20 year-old central midfielder who has been at the Allianz Arena since 1st July, 2016 is now on the verge of making a move for the better but where is he off to is yet to be seen. So far in his transfer build-up, he has been told by the Bayern manager Carlo Ancelotti himself that the Portuguese can even leave Bayern on loan this season.
Bayern Munich acquired the playmaker at a time when he was in a great form, after coming from a successful Euro 2016 championship-winning campaign. His market value had soared to €35million at that time. Since then, he has went on to garner only 26 appearances for the German giants, including 17 in Bundesliga, out of which he has started just 6 times, as Vidal and Rodriguez (of late) are being preferred over him.
Renato Sanches has been a target for many top clubs from Europe as he is still regarded as one of Europe’s brightest talents despite a poor first season in Germany. Liverpool and Chelsea have shown more interest lately and the Reds are the ones who are considered as favourites to sign the talented midfielder.
Ironically, things are having their own way in regard to Sanches’ career as Swansea City’s apparent move seems most likely on the cards. Paul Clement is well aware of the Bayern star’s availability, as he prepares to launch an exorbitant bid for the youngster to land him at Swansea ahead of the likes of Chelsea and Liverpool, both of whom have been strongly linked to the Portuguese ace. Also, he knows Sanches from his time as Carlo Ancelotti’s assistant.
However, with Jurgen Klopp seemingly still on the lookout for further midfield reinforcements, Liverpool still sit in the pole position to seal the deal. Moreover, reports suggest that Liverpool are in deep talks with Bayern to have some sort of deal finalised with Sanches’ agent, Jorge Mendes before the deadline i.e. 31st August.
No matter the slump in form or the struggle with the club, someone with the quality of Renato will prove to be an asset over a period of time to the same Liverpool team that tore Arsenal apart on Sunday.
Why Should Liverpool Buy Renato Sanches?
Firstly, Bayern Munich’s sporting director Hasan Salihamidzic confirmed the news:
“He asked the coach to be allowed to think about his future. That’s why he is not part of the squad today.”
This piece of information is a direct testament to the fact that the 20 year-old playmaker needs a break, and this points out his availability to willingly sign up for a new challenge outside of Bavaria.
Tactically, he represents the kind of player equipped to thrive under a manager like Klopp and thereby many fans will feel the Reds should welcome him with open arms.
At Anfield, he would not only promise some serious athleticism but would also exhibit the desire to outperform the other quality signings of this summer. With his fiery footwork and the ability to make explosive runs as well as releasing well-timed balls to the wingers and the 3rd man, he is an ideal fit to the Liverpool squad for this season.
Klopp would do well to sign Sanches up this summer, as squad depth will be a crucial factor this season with Champions League football to play.
