Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool have managed to stitch a few positive results before the last international break this year and the manager will be relatively happy with the way things are at the moment. The Reds are now within reach of a place in the top four but they might have to make a few improvements to their squad, which can help them become more consistent this season.
They have one of the best attacks in the league at the moment but a lack of diversity in the options at Klopp’s disposal is surely going to make him nervous. The likes of Firmino and Sturridge, Klopp’s first choice to lead the line, are one dimensional at times, and they genuinely lack a target-man in their squad, that can help them against the best teams in the country. Here are three such strikers Klopp should start looking at for the club’s future:
Constantly linked with an exit from the Bernabeu, Benzema is one of the best strikers in world football at the moment and is pitch perfect for a club that wants a target man. He is more than capable of creating chances and getting involved in the build-up play, something that will attract Klopp. The likes of Arsenal are desperate for his signature but Liverpool have also been linked with him at times and if they decide that they need a target-man, they need not look further than the French international and his envious goal-scoring record.
Though not as good a target-man as Benzema, Cavani has all the makings of being a superstar at Anfield. With great finishing and an even better work rate, Cavani is perfect for Klopp’s style of play at Liverpool and his ability to hold up play in the final third and aerial strength will add another dimension to the Liverpool attack – something they are craving for at the moment. His future at PSG is in doubt, thanks to the amount of quality in the squad at the club and if Liverpool can convince him of the chances he will get at Anfield, the £40.5m rated Cavani can surely help Liverpool back to their previous best.
If Klopp seriously desires a target man, he might not have to look any further than English ace Danny Ings. The 25-year old is finally back to full fitness, after two season-ending injuries in the last couple of years. He came back with a bang, scoring 4 goals in his first start for the U23s earlier this season and seems ready for the big test.
Reports claim that Klopp might loan him out to give him some game time and get him back to his best but if Liverpool are in search of a striker who can act as a target man in particular games, Ings is just their man. His energy and work rate will impress Klopp while his finishing will impress the fans so surely, Ings deserves more game time in the first team at Anfield.
