Go for it Jose: Man United must do everything to sign Barcelona starlet who impressed at the World Cup

Why Yerry Mina could be perfect for Manchester United

Manchester United have surprisingly maintained a low profile in this transfer market. The Red Devils did sign Fred, Lee Grant, and Diogo Dalot but are yet to make a marquee signing. Jose Mourinho will be itching to win the Premier League after enduring a frustrating campaign last time out. The former Chelsea coach also failed to win the FA Cup last season, despite reaching the finals.

The manager is not yet done with his business in the market, with Mourinho reportedly hoping to bring in two more new signings before the transfer window shuts on August 9th. The club have since been linked with a move for Barcelona defender Yerry Mina.

Jose Mourinho is reportedly keen on bolstering his defensive setup after a number of Red Devils stars underperformed last season.

Mina made the move to Barcelona only in January, after impressing for Brazilian outfit Palmeiras for two years. But the 23-year-old struggled to nail down a spot at the club and with the arrival of Clement Lenglet, it’s clear that he is not a part of Ernesto Valverde’s plans this season.

Mourinho could take this opportunity to lure the player to Old Trafford. Lyon, Everton and Wolves are a few clubs interested in signing the young defender.

After making the move to Camp Nou this January, the Colombian has only been able to muster a total of 5 appearances in the La Liga, providing 1 assist.

His impressive performances for Palmeiras saw the youngster get rewarded with a spot in Colombia’s national team for the World Cup. He was impressive for his country, scoring 3 goals in 3 appearances.

Mina is a tall, strong and agile defender. He is rarely prone to making sloppy defensive errors. The Colombian is very powerful in the air, posing a huge aerial threat during set-pieces. He won an average of 4.7 aerial duels at the World Cup.

He also boasted an average of 2.2 successful aerial duels in the La Liga. The 23-year-old is very calm and composed on the ball and is a neat passer too. He averaged a pass success rate of 92.6% in the league last season.

While Manchester United possess defenders like Chris Smalling, Phil Jones, Victor Lindelof and Eric Bailly in their ranks, Mourinho is going to need someone who can perform on a consistent basis without a drop in form or persistent injuries.

Mina would provide the squad with considerable depth and strength. He would be a great addition to Mourinho’s defensive setup. United were difficult to breach last season and with Mina in the squad, it would probably take a miracle to score against them.
