Go for it Jose – Man United could clinch the PL title next season by landing this £1.16m-a-month South American

Why Manchester United should buy Thiago Silva next summer

According to reports in the Sun, French champions Paris Saint-Germain will look to sell defender and captain Thiago Silva next summer. The Brazilian’s contract ends in the summer of 2020 and PSG are keen to cash in on him. This development has put Italian clubs Juventus, AC Milan and AS Roma on alert.

The player is on a current monthly wage of £1.16m. Silva was an AC Milan player before joining the Parisian club in the summer of 2012. He has come leaps and bounds in the last four or five years of his career, where he is the Brazil national team’s captain and one of the key players.

For that reason, Manchester United of all clubs should keep close tabs on the 34-year-old. The Red Devils failed to buy a centre-back this summer after manager Jose Mourinho clearly stated the need for one. (Sun)

And with the start United have got this season, they evidently look like a team who are not defensively safe. They have conceded nine goals in six league games.

Hence, Mourinho’s demand for a centre-back was right. The Portuguese could do with the experience of Thiago Silva at the back. Here’s why:

Thiago Silva – Player Analysis

The one thing about Thiago Silva which stands out from the rest is that he is a proper leader of men. He is someone who would command the back-line and concurrently tell the team to be in shape. The Brazilian has everything you need to really trust him in whichever situation he is thrown into.

At 34, he still looks fit enough to probably play two or three more years in top-flight football. Therefore, comparing the attributes Silva possesses and the kind of centre-back  that United need, this could be a perfect match.

Verdict

It’s true that the player won’t be a long-term solution at the club, but neither does Mourinho look for decade-long solutions. Hence, if we fit all the jigsaws, it’d make perfect sense for Manchester United to go after Silva next summer when Paris make him available for sale.

Due to his age, he might be a one or two-season player who can help United win the title.
