Go for it Graeme Murty – Why a permanent deal for Sean Goss looks like a no-brainer

Rangers’ on-loan midfielder Sean Goss has been making waves in Scotland with one impressive performance after another, which has left the Gers’ manager Graeme Murty wishing to sign him on a permanent deal at the end of the season.

As quoted by the Scotsman, Murty said:

“Sean Goss is one of a number of players we are looking to bring in on a permanent deal. “He has made a really good start and has shown he understands how we want to play and the demands of playing for Rangers at Ibrox. “

Signed on a temporary spell till the end of the season from English club Queens Park Rangers, the former Manchester United academy midfielder has taken to his new surroundings like a duck takes to water and hasn’t wasted a lot of time in establishing himself as Murty’s first-choice in the middle of the park amidst a host of other players.

The 22-year old has played 8 times in all competitions for the Light Blues since his January move, netting twice and assisting one goal. His latest display against St. Johnstone this past midweek, where he scored a goal from a sensational free-kick highlighted his rapid development into one of the Gers’ most pivotal players, as they chase rivals Celtic in the Scottish Premiership.

It is not a surprise for people who have been monitoring his career since his youth days, to see him grow this fast. Goss, throughout his time at United, was always held in extremely high regards at the club. In fact, the midfielder came close to a senior debut for the Mancunians in 2015 under Louis van Gaal and had made the bench for the Red Devils’ game against Watford in October that year.

Two months later, however, Goss – then 20 – was diagnosed with a back injury that ruled him out of action for close to a year in which he had to go through arduous rehabilitation in order to be able to play again. Having missed out on his chance, the midfielder decided to join QPR in January 2017 but things did not go as per plans for him at Loftus Road either.

Goss made only six appearances since his move to QPR last year, none of which have come in the 2017/18 campaign. So he decided to sign for Rangers in the winter, where he has prospered immediately and has shown signs of fulfilling the immense promise he had shown in his younger days.

The 22-year old has struck up a solid partnership alongside fellow January signing Greg Docherty and the fact that the Gers have won all but one of the 8 games he has featured in gives an insight into how impactful he has been. So, from the club’s point of view, it would be a no-brainer really to try and sign him on a permanent deal at the end of the season, provided he manages to maintain this level of performances consistently.
