Go for it Gerrard – Rangers need to take the gamble on Liverpool’s Dominic Solanke

As per reports from the Sun, Scottish Premiership side Rangers are eyeing a move for 20-year-old English forward Dominic Solanke, with newly appointed manager Steven Gerrard keen on raiding his former club for the striker.

Gerrard was recently announced as the Gers manager, following the sacking of Graeme Murty not long ago and the Liverpool legend will be taking over at the Glasgow outfit at the end of the season. As per the aforementioned report, the former England international has made Solanke as his first order of business.

Rangers sit 3rd in the Premiership currently, with just one more game left to play and after the recent trashings they’ve received at the hands of bitter rivals Celtic, the Light Blues will definitely want to hit back harder next season and have chosen Gerrard to lead the way.

How the summer transfer window shapes up will have a huge say in the way Gerrard’s first season in charge of the Gers might pan out.

Signing a new striker should definitely be one of Gerrard’s top priority in the window. Rangers will be left with Alfredo Morelos as the only centre-forward in the ranks, with veteran striker Kenny Miller’s contract set to expire and Jason Cummings’ loan deal set to end.

While there were chances that the Gers could sign Cummings on a permanent deal given his recent displays, they would be better off looking at alternatives.

Solanke would represent a decent alternative for the Ibrox based outfit. The 20-year old hasn’t had the best of the seasons since joining Liverpool from Chelsea last summer but his talent is unquestionable.

This term, Solanke has made 26 appearances across all competitions, only five of which have been starts. The Englishman has failed to score a single goal so far and has managed a solitary assist. That doesn’t bode well for the striker but his exploits in the past with the Chelsea youth sides and his achievements with the England U-20 side are something that the Gers need to look at.

Solanke has enjoyed a prolific goal-scoring record during his youth days with the West London outfit and had fared decently during his loan spell away with Vitesse Arnhem as well.

The 20-year-old also fired the Three Lions’ U-20 side to the FIFA World Cup triumph last summer and was recently given his first senior international cap by England manager Gareth Southgate, which highlights how highly he is rated.

Solanke may not have had the best of seasons but that is completely down to the fact that he hasn’t gotten a regular run in the Liverpool team. If given a chance, he certainly has what it takes to be a consistent goalscorer.

A sharp finisher with pace and physical strength, the 20-year-old has shown all the right attributes and Rangers should definitely take the gamble on the Liverpool forward in the summer.
