Go for it Farke – Signing this Barcelona starlet will be an excellent under-the-radar coup by Norwich City in the summer

Norwich City Opinion: Jorge Cuenca signing can raise defensive attributes

Norwich City are currently enjoying what has been a highly successful season, considering they finished last season in an abysmal 14th place. They managed to collect just 60 points in the entirety of last season – a number they have already achieved this term.

Currently top of the EFL Championship table and a respectable 2 points clear of both Sheffield United and Leeds United, Norwich have looked inspired and this is mostly down to how effective their front-line has been.

Daniel Farke has managed to bring together a group of players who are seemingly willing to fight for each other as they aspire towards to common goal. Centre-forward Teemu Pukki has really come to the fore for the Canaries this campaign as well.

He has scored a whopping 23 goals from his 31 games so far which is a record that’s good enough to keep him at the top of Championship golden boot table. While his finishing has been amazing, it’s the timing of some of the goals he’s scored that makes him such an unassailable player.

Apart from this, players like Mario Vrancic and Onel Hernandez have also stepped up to the plate whenever a hero has been required an each and every member of this squad has worked their socks off over the course of the campaign to keep them in the hunt for the title.

With this said, the have conceded 44 times in their 34 games so far this season. Despite being top of the table, they have the worst defensive record out of all the top-nine teams in the league, meaning some defensive reinforcements are in order at Norwich.

The Canaries currently have only 3 recognised centre-halves available at their disposal. Like we’ve seen this season, when one of the starters picks up a knock, they have struggled to maintain the defensive quality.

The addition of a top quality centre-half who can be moulded into a superstar for the Canaries must become one of Farke’s summer transfer priorities. Given their style of play, they should be looking at Barcelona B’s 19-year-old centre-half Jorge Cuenca.

The Spaniard has been excellent for the Barcelona reserves this season. Although he isn’t a direct product of the La Masia academy, his training and development over the past couple of years have certainly hoisted him to the supreme level.

He has played just one game for the Barcelona first team which came in their Copa Del Rey fixture against Leonesa. Apart from this, he plays for their reserve team for whom he has made 20 appearances this campaign and even scored a goal from centre-half.

His movement and sharpness are excellent and his positioning is unbelievable. His height and build suit the English game’s physical nature and at 19, his development is guaranteed. This is a no-brainer and Farke must go all out to try and complete this dream.
