Go for it Emery – Arsenal splashing £50m on this Bundesliga sensation could bring back the glory days

According to reports, Arsenal have opened talks with RB Leipzig over playmaker Emil Forsberg. Arsenal have a big summer transfer window, with manager Unai Emery stepping in to replace Arsene Wenger. Emery faces one of the mightiest jobs in reshaping the squad and taking the Gunners back to the top of the league.

The former PSG manager should be granted a sizeable war-chest to spend and while his priority will be to repair the defence, he could be tempted to make some changes to the attack as well.

Considering Arsenal’s current options in the attack, they probably have enough ammunition to compete in the Premier League next season. But the Gunners will also participate in the Europa League for the second year running, which could prompt Emery to splash the cash for an attacker, as the Spaniard’s hunting ground remains Europe’s second-elite competition.

If reports are to go by, the Gunners are interested in signing Forsberg for £50m. He is considered as one of the most exciting attacking prospects across Europe and has been the main driving force behind RB Leipzig’s sudden rise in European football over the past couple of years.

The Sweden international has become a vital cog of Ralph Hasenhuttl’s high-octane Leipzig. Forsberg predominately plays on the left-wing of Hasenhuttl’s fluid 4-4-2 formation. His quickness, athleticism and agility allow him to glide past defenders with so much ease and poise.

Forsberg would add depth to Liverpool flanks.

A fantastic passer of the ball, Forsberg possesses incredible vision and reading of the game that brings his teammates into the game. He is not a selfish player but knows when and how to spread the play with his exceptional passing and crossing abilities. The Swede’s ability to create continuously from the wings separates him from a lot of modern-day wingers.

Not only is he a natural winger, playing on the left-wing and cutting in onto his stronger right foot, creating chances for his teammates and scoring goals, but also is an extremely technically gifted footballer.

Forsberg is not super-fast but has the pace needed to beat a defender and exploit the space behind him. While his attacking traits make him a tantalising player to have in any side that plays free-flowing expansive football, the Swedish star is not a defensive slouch either.

The mixture of skill, creativity and guile makes Forsberg an incredibly versatile player. Capable of playing out wide and delivering crosses into the box or offer creativity behind the striker, the 26-year-old can do it all. Also, what separates him from other attackers in Europe is his intelligent movement and nous to place himself in goal-scoring positions.

While Timo Werner has benefited the most playing alongside Forsberg, it could be Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang at Arsenal. It remains to be seen whether the Gunners sign Forsberg or not. However, with regards to style of play and position, Forsberg is simply perfect for Arsenal.

A front three of Forsberg, Aubameyang and Henrikh Mkhitaryan looks deadly for Arsenal. Place Mesut Ozil behind the striker and the Gunners will boast one of the most formidable attacks in Europe, capable of challenging for the title next term.

In every case, Arsenal would be the perfect destination for Forsberg. The Sweden star is the type of player Emery should be pursuing as the Spaniard looks to bring the glory days back at Arsenal.
