Three Deals That Chelsea Should Look To Complete This January

The reigning Premier League champions haven’t exactly had the best start to their campaign this season as they sit 9 points behind table-toppers Manchester City in 4th place.

The Blues have already lost three games so far this season and have shown signs of lack of depth in many games. Antonio Conte has already admitted that his squad lacks strength at the moment and is looking to add some more players to his squad.

The Blues made some big signings in the summer but will need to bring in more players in the upcoming January transfer window if they want to compete for the title this season. Let’s take a look at three deals Chelsea should wrap up in January.

Radja Nainggolan

The 29-year-old Belgian midfielder has long been a target for the Blues and his performance against them last week was a reminder of why the London were interested in him. Even the Blues manager, Antonio Conte described him as ‘one of the best midfielders in the world’ in the past.

The AS Roma midfielder had a lot of praise for Antonio Conte after last week’s Champions League game between both clubs.

Nainggolan has a strong presence in the midfield and could fill the void left by Nemanja Matic.

Ross Barkley

Ross Barkley could have already been a Chelsea player if it weren’t for his late change of heart after passing the medical with the London club. The English midfielder is currently in the final year of his contract with Everton and will be a free agent next summer.

The Toffees will not risk losing the 23-year-old for free and are likely to invite offers in January. Antonio Conte will certainly be looking to finalise a deal this time around, after coming so close to signing him in the summer.

The Blues remain interested in signing the England international but will face competition from Tottenham for his signature, with both clubs set to make January bids even though his contract expires at the end of the season.

Tiemoue Bakayoko recently made his Premier League debut and needs more time to adapt to the first-team. Barkley, on the other hand, has plenty of experience and can be an excellent squad player for the Blues at the moment.

Faouzi Ghoulam

The Algerian international has been a regular member of the Napoli backline since his arrival at the club in 2014. The 26-year-old left-back was linked with Liverpool and Chelsea in the past but Napoli refused to entertain any approach.

But with the player’s contract set to end next summer, Napoli could be open to offers in January. Chelsea currently have Marcos Alonso playing at left-back but the Spaniard needs a proper backup and competition and Ghoulam could be the perfect man for the job.

Ghoulam, 26, has been a mainstay in Napoli’s starting XI since joining the Serie A outfit back in 2014 but the Algeria international is being heavily linked with a move to the Premier League in the new year. Both Chelsea and Manchester City are keen on Ghoulam but Liverpool are understood to be expressing the strongest interest in the left-back.
