Go for it Bielsa: This 32-year-old veteran could massively boost Leeds United’s bench strength

Why Leeds United must go all out to sign Cameron Jerome on loan

As per a report by Derbyshire Live, Leeds United are interested in a last-minute loan deal to sign Cameron Jerome from Derby County this summer.

The 32-year-old striker is immensely experienced and he also possesses a wide skill-set which could benefit any club he sings for. Marcelo Bielsa’s Leeds have already made a flying start to the campaign so far but is signing Jerome a step in the right direction?

Derbyshire Live goes on to claim that the likes of Blackburn Rovers and Bolton Wanderers are also interested in a temporary move. However, given the striker’s level of experience and calibre, Leeds must beat their rivals to acquire his services.

It is quite evident that the player is not a regular starter for the Rams. And since Jerome is not getting any younger, he must jump at the opportunity to play regularly.

Of course, given Kemar Roofe’s sublime form, Jerome might not be starting for Leeds day in and day out. However, he could provide Bielsa with some added depth while also allowing scope for tweaking formations and tactics.

The new Leeds boss is known for his unique yet effective philosophy when it comes to football. Although he usually deploys only one striker, Bielsa could toy with the idea of employing a two-striker formation against certain teams, with Jerome in the mix.

Interestingly, Jerome joined Derby earlier in January this year from Norwich City. His current contract runs out next summer but it does include the option of one-year extension.

Although the powerful striker scored 6 goals in 20 appearances for Derby last season, he seems to have fallen down the pecking order since Frank Lampard’s arrival. Since the Chelsea legend’s arrival, Jerome is yet to make a single appearance in the Championship.

Leeds have made a brilliant start to the campaign but they cannot survive solely with Roofe and Patrick Bamford. The latter is far too inexperienced to bear the brunt of responsibility in Roofe’s absence. And it is certainly not possible for Roofe to play every single game.

Given Jerome’s experience in the Championship, he would certainly prove to be a valuable asset and boost Leeds’ bench strength considerably.
