Go for him Gerrard: Signing this Premier League ace could turn out to be a masterstroke for Rangers

According to reports, newly appointed Rangers boss Steven Gerrard has made the loan signing of Liverpool striker Dominic Solanke his top priority.

Liverpool roped in Solanke from Chelsea last summer but he failed to impress at Anfield as he struggled for game time. Solanke managed just five starts in the Premier League last season and scored just once, with his solitary strike coming against Brighton on the final day of the season.

The 20-year-old’s struggles at Anfield are understandable, considering Jurgen Klopp had Mohamed Salah, Roberto Firmino and Sadio Mane blowing away teams left, right and centre – both domestically and in Europe. So, Solanke failed to find a way through and hardly made an impact while coming off the bench.

Solanke has shown signs that he is not yet ready to compete for a top Premier League team. Lack of game time, coupled with his lack of confidence has seen the striker struggle in front of goal at Anfield. However, a move away from Merseyside could work well for Solanke.

Rangers are interested in a loan deal for Solanke, who should jump at the prospect of playing under Gerrard. Solanke may have failed to live up to the billing at Liverpool, but he surely possesses the right attitude and hunger to learn and improve. And Gerrard will be the perfect manager to help him improve his game and regain his lost confidence.

Although primarily being a striker, Solanke could be utilised on the flanks by Gerrard at Rangers. Solanke is someone whose talents are well known to Gerrard, owing to his coaching stint with the Reds youngsters, and the former Liverpool skipper will need to find out a way to help the young Englishman regain his scoring touch.

Solanke possesses a natural ability to glide past defenders and score goals. He is strong, powerful and pacey. At Rangers, the young Englishman would also receive several opportunities to showcase his talents, Additionally, he could develop physically in a league which is known for its forceful and vibrant nature.

Regular football and the manager’s trust could help to get the best out of Solanke. He is a player clearly struggling with form and is also lacking in confidence due to the limited game time he got under Klopp. But there is no denying Solanke’s talent and a season away from Anfield could do him the world of good.

Scottish Premier League has proven to be a decent breeding ground for young talents over the last few years. Rangers have shown trust in Gerrard to end Celtic’s domestic domination and bring back the glory days at Ibrox. After strengthening the wide areas with the additions of Jamie Murphy and Scott Arfield, it is time for Gerrard to show faith in Solanke and sign him from Liverpool.

If Rangers do succeed in getting Solanke on loan, it would be considered a masterstroke from Gerrard. And from Liverpool’s perspective, they will hope to get an improved and prolific Solanke back at Anfield in January or at the beginning of the 2019/20 campaign.
