Go For Him Brendan Rodgers – This Aberdeen Attacker Would Massively Improve The Celtic Line-up

Why Jonny Hayes Will Be A Good Addition To Celtic

As per reports from the Daily Record, Scottish champions Celtic are interested in signing Aberdeen winger Jonny Hayes. The 29-year old was one of the Dons’ best player this past season, helping them to a second-placed finish in the Scottish Premiership and was also their best player in the Scottish Cup final which they lost 2-1 to the Bhoys.

His display at the Hampden Park seems to have peaked the interests of Celtic manager Brendan Rodgers, who now wants Hayes as part of his squad for next season.

Celtic had a great season as they finished with a domestic treble – the third time in the history of the club and the first time since 2001. In the process, the Bhoys finished the season with an unbeaten record in all domestic competitions, indicating their domination in Scotland.

Their European campaign, however, did not go as well as the team would have liked it to. After surviving a scare in the playoff stage, they were drawn in the same group as Barcelona, Manchester City, and Borussia Monchengladbach. Celtic could not get into the knockout stages as they finished bottom of the group and this is something that they will want to improve upon next season.

So reinforcements over the summer is very likely. While Celtic would ideally want to sign players with European experience, Hayes would still be an excellent addition to the squad. The three-time capped Ireland International had a successful campaign with Aberdeen as he finished with a total of 11 goals and a whopping 24 assists from 44 games across all competitions.

Hayes was one of the main reasons why the Dons were able to finish 2nd in the Scottish Premiership and made it to 2 cup finals. He managed to give a big scare to the Hoops in the Scottish Cup final last weekend, opening the scoring with a beautifully struck volley and was a constant menace down the right-hand side.

Celtic will be left with James Forrest as the only viable option on the right flank ahead of next campaign, with 20-year old Patrick Roberts set to return to Manchester City after his loan spell came to an end. Roberts was one of Celtic’s best players this season as he ended up with 11 goals and 19 assists from 47 games and his loss will definitely be felt by the Bhoys next season.

While there are good chances that they might try and get the talented England youth international on another loan spell from City, Hayes is someone who will be able to fill in seamlessly into Roberts’ role. The 29-year old can score and create in plenty as was seen this past season. He offers versatility with his ability to slot in comfortably on either flank, and his pace and excellent work rate are a real asset. Whether or not Celtic get Roberts on loan once again, Hayes will be a great addition to the team and will definitely make them stronger.
