Bournemouth vs Aston Villa report: Bournemouth match report

Josh King and Harry Wilson helped Bournemouth to a 2-1 victory over Aston Villa at Villa Park in the Premier League on Saturday. Douglas Luiz scored a worldie but it wasn’t enough to prevent Aston Villa from falling to a defeat.

Bournemouth handed a Premier League debut to winger Harry Wilson as one of two changes and also reverted to a back four. Charlie Daniels was recalled, with Diego Rico and Chris Mepham the pair to drop to the bench. Hosts Aston Villa, meanwhile, gave Douglas Luiz a start in the midfield ahead of Conor Hourihane.

With just two minutes on the clock, Joshua King opened the scoring from the penalty spot after Callum Wilson was brought down by Villa goalkeeper Tom Heaton. Villa reacted positively and after Bournemouth were caught in the midfield, John McGinn tested goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale from long range.

But in the 12th minute, the visitors doubled their lead through Harry Wilson. Mahmoud Trezeguet’s pass was surprisingly left alone by Douglas Luiz, which saw Wilson pounce on the loose ball and smash a left-footed shot from 25 yards out. He found the corner past a scrambling Heaton, with the effort taking a deflection off defender Tyrone Mings.

Despite going two goals behind, Villa’s confidence wasn’t affected and they continued to press. Wesley Moraes’ deflected strike was palmed away by Ramsdale before Charlie Daniels made a vital clearance for the visitors at the back post. At the other end, Wilson’s stabbed effort forced a sharp reaction stop from Heaton.

Villa looked to take the game to the visitors in the second period and Wesley saw his penalty appeal turned down by VAR after he went down under pressure from Ramsdale.

Jack Grealish came close to pulling a goal back but struck just over the crossbar. And Villa’s constant pressure paid off when Luiz made it 2-1 with a top goal to give the home side hope.
