Gervinho, Pitch Invasion, Goal Keepers, It’s All Happening In AFCON

The African Cup of Nations which started on January 19th has already given some moth watering football, pitch invasions, goal keepers scoring goals and most importantly from an Arsenal fan’s perspective – their forward Gervinho has got his name on the score sheet twice.

As it stands South Africa, Ghana, Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast lead their respective groups with a game left to play in the group stages. Today’s match saw Ivory Coast go up against Tunisia and the hosts eased their way past Tunisia courtesy of a goal each from Gervinho, Yaya Toure and Konan. Both the Premier league stars have now scored in the two matches they have played and looked brilliant overall.

Gervinho who is generally considered as impotent in front of goal has scored two beautiful goals much to the amusement of Arsenal fans !

Looks like AFCON is already a hit than Euro! I know, am just kidding.

Yesterday’s match saw Zambia and Nigeria who played out a dragging 1-1 draw. But the match had it’s talking points as well. Nigerian and Premier league star John Obi Mikel’s penalty in the 25 minute of the game was saved incredibly by Zambian goalkeeper Kennedy Mweene and the keeper din’t stop there, at the 85 minute mark he scored an incredbile penalty to earn a point for Zambia. The defending champions (Zambia) are now tied with Nigeria and need 3 points against Burkina Faso to ensure progress for the next round.
