According to a report in Football Scotland, Scottish giants Rangers have agreed on a deal to sign Charlton Athletic midfielder Joe Aribo on a four-year contract.
As per the report, Aribo will undergo a medical on Monday and will go on to sign the contract with the Gers and join his new teammates in a pre-season camp in Portugal. (h/t Football Scotland)
It is well known that the youngster was a subject of interest from various clubs in the Premier League. However, it is Steven Gerrard’s men who have won the race to sign him. (h/t Football Scotland)
Due to the cross-border nature of this transfer, the deal will only cost Rangers £300k, which is a proper bargain price. Aribo became the Gers’ seventh signing of this summer. Here’s why this is equally good as the others:
Predominantly a central midfielder, Joe Aribo can operate in attacking midfield and is capable of playing as a wide-midfielder as well if required.
In terms of his attributes, the 22-year-old possesses good pace, dynamism and hunger in midfield, is a very good passer and dribbler of the ball, can finish off the chances when they arrive and is very active in terms of helping the team recover possession as soon as they lose it.
With 10 goals and five assists in 39 league appearances (including the playoffs) last season, Aribo has shown that he can contribute in terms of scoring and assisting vital goals apart from his usual work in midfield.
So, it won’t be an overstatement to say that Rangers will become better once the 22-year-old joins them after completing his medical. His dynamism and versatility could add that extra bit of edge to this Gers team.
All in all, we can conclude that Steven Gerrard’s men have made a fantastic move by signing Joe Aribo from Charlton.
