Predicted Newcastle United Lineup To Face Tottenham Hotspur On The Opening Day Of The Premier League Campaign
Newcastle United will mark their return to the Premier League with a home fixture against last season’s runners-up Tottenham Hotspur.
It will be a big day for the fans of the Tyneside club, after having had to go through the fate of relegation last time they were in the English top-flight. Manager Rafael Benitez guided them back to the big league, via a EFL Championship title win and will be hoping that his wards are up to the task to put up a strong fight on their return.
They will have good memories of facing Spurs in the Premier League, having defeated them 5-1 at the St. James’ Park when the two sides met last time out, in May 2016. A victory against the North Londoners will set them on the right path to have a strong season.

Right-back DeAndre Yedlin is unavailable for the game due to a hamstring problem while last season’s top goal-scorer Dwight Gayle too is a doubt due to his recurring hamstring injury.

The fan favourite Rob Elliot will take the spot between the sticks for the clash against Spurs, ahead of last season’s No.1 Karl Darlow, who doesn’t seem to have a future in Benitez’s plans.

With Yedlin out injured, the summer signing is set to make his debut for the Magpies. Has the experience of the Premier League having spent time on loan with Liverpool and Sunderland, and will look to start off with a good showing.
Florian Lejeune (CB)
Another summer arrival, Lejeune has already endeared himself to the fans with some strong displays in the pre-season friendlies. Is likely to start the game ahead of Jamaal Lascelles.
Ciaran Clark (CB)
The 26-year old was a rock at the back last season and his experience in the Premier League should give him an edge over other options at Benitez’s disposal.
Paul Dummett (LB)
Might not be as highly regarded by a section of fans, but was reliable and consistent last season and will start at left-back.
Jonjo Shelvey (CM)
The most important player for the Magpies on the field, Shelvey will have a big role to play in how the season shapes up for his team.
Mikel Merino (CM)
Shelvey could mostly be be partnered by new loan arrival Mikel Merino, ahead of Isaac Hayden. The Spain youth international has immense potential and could prove to be the ideal partner for the Englishman.
Matt Ritchie (RW)
The former Bournemouth man will occupy the spot on the right-hand side of the attacking line. His goals and creating ability will be crucial.
Ayoze Perez (CAM)
With no natural No.10 in the squad, Benitez will have to rely upon Ayoze Perez once again. The Spaniard impressed last season in such a position and has some degree of experience in the top division as well. He could prove to be a vital player.
Christian Atsu (LW)
The left flank will be occupied by another new signing, Christian Atsu. The former Chelsea man performed decently when on loan last season with the Magpies and he will need to step it up a notch in the top flight.
Aleksandar Mitrovic (ST)
With Gayle struggling with a hamstring problem, leading the line will be mercurial striker Aleksandar Mitrovic. The giant Serb has had a good pre-season and will look to carry that form into the season opener.
