What Does The Future Hold For This Forgotten Liverpool Star?

Liverpool will surely be looking for a winger throughout this summer. Lazar Markovic, one of Liverpool’s very few wingers was loaned out to Fenerbache at the beginning of the previous season. His loan spell has ended and his future at Liverpool is quite uncertain with reports suggesting that Liverpool have offered Markovic to Galatasaray. Here is a brief account of Markovic’s time at Liverpool so far.

Markovic joined Liverpool in 2014 for 20 million euros after a domestic treble winning season at Benfica. There was a lot of hype surrounding the winger when he joined Liverpool, with it being said that he could be one of the breakthrough talents in the Premier League that season. It could have come true if it hasn’t been for some poor management by Brendan Rodgers. Markovic was capable of playing in different positions, but he was never played in his desired position. Markovic was played out of position for the majority of the season and so his performances were never up-to the mark. His development into one of Europe’s most exciting wide attackers was halted. He could only manage 19 league appearances that season for Liverpool, scoring twice.

A big section of Liverpool fans wanted him to leave the club and their wish came true when Liverpool loaned him out to Fenerbache at the end of the 2014-15 season. Markovic had a better time at Fenerbache compared to his time at Liverpool.

Liverpool will welcome back Markovic with open arms with the lack of wingers at the club undeniable. Klopp himself said:

“I will say at the start of pre-season, ‘Welcome and then its up to you'”. “If he wants to come back to Liverpool, he is welcome. We are short on wingers. Everybody who is involved in pre-season will have a part to play.”

For Markovic, the best news is that Rodgers is gone and Klopp has come. Klopp’s style of play should combine perfectly with Markovic’s direct and pacy style of play. Markovic will fit Klopp’s style of play well and if he has the desire to seize a second chance, he will be a success at Liverpool. It all depends on Markovic and his desire to become successful at Liverpool.

Markovic will be aware that Klopp will give him chances but if he is unable to capitalize on the chances, he might have to look for a permanent club. If Markovic is sensible enough, he will not let this chance go. Also, Klopp should not hesitate in bringing Markovic back to the club. Markovic and Klopp can complement each other well and Klopp should try and keep the Serbian winger at the club.
