Fulham opinion: Why Harry Arter would be a good signing for the Cottagers

According to a report from The Sun, Fulham are interested in signing Bournemouth midfielder Harry Arter.

Arter, 29, fell out of favour at the Vitality Stadium last season and spent the campaign on loan at Cardiff City, where he impressed in their midfield despite the Welsh club suffering relegation back to the Championship.

The midfielder had featured heavily in this pre-season, however, Bournemouth’s recent signing of Philip Billing from Huddersfield Town means the 29-year-old could be allowed to leave the club.

The report claims that Scott Parker, who is Arter’s brother in law, is looking to sign the Republic of Ireland international, with the Cherries looking for a fee of £8million. The likes of Sheffield United and Stoke City are also in the hunt for his signature.

Fulham were relegated from the Premier League and so they have to make transfers which will help them to bounce back at the first time of asking.

In Scott Parker, the Cottagers boast a head coach of potential who knows the club. He is a sensible man and will push his players to replicate the sparkling form which took Slavisa Jokanovic’s team to the Premier League.

The likes of Anthony Knockaert and Ivan Cavaleiro have all arrived at Craven Cottage as marquee signings, but Parker needs to focus on reinforcing his midfield options following the departures of Jean Michael Seri and Andre-Frank Zambo Anguissa. Thus, signing Harry Arter would make complete sense for Fulham.

Arter has been a top performer for Bournemouth since Eddie Howe’s men won promotion to the Premier League. He might have lost his place in the Cherries’ starting XI but proved himself at Cardiff last term.

A tenacious midfielder, the Republic of Ireland international excels in breaking the opposition’s play with his tackling and game-reading skills.

He is a committed player on the pitch and will add a lot of energy and intensity to Fulham’s engine room next season. Arter’s presence in the middle of the park would provide more freedom to the Cottagers’ attacking players in the final third.

Verdict

Following the departures of Seri and Anguissa, Fulham need a quality midfielder for the new season. Arter would be an excellent addition to the Cottagers as his past experiences in the Premier League will help him shine in the Championship.
