From Tunisia to London? What Will This Ligue 1 Tackler Offer To Arsenal’s Defence?

Aymen Abdennour to Arsenal?

Arsenal are set to be in the race to sign another central defender, which should solve their problems in the heart of the defence. The Gunners seem to be looking at an option from the French Ligue and have targeted the 25-year-old Aymen Abdennour from Monaco, the Tunisian has been impressive for the club since he arrived there from rivals Toulouse but what would he provide to Arsenal is he does complete a move? We provide a scout report on the defender.

From Tunisia to London?

Abdennour started his career for ES Sahel and as with most African clubs, scouts from the top European clubs hand-pick the next big thing and sure enough Abdennour was signed by Werder Bremen on a six-month loan, unfortunately for the Tunisian, the deal was not made permanent and he returned to his club after this.

His European journey only had begun as he was later signed by Toulouse and after spending a couple of seasons at the club, he was sent on loan to Monaco who signed him permanently in 2014. The Tunisian might not be the youngest player out these, but he does have a lot of experience and can play in a range of positions which would make him a great candidate for Arsenal.

Aymen started his career as a winger and later shifted to a left back role before moving to a central defender’s role, thanks to him playing in so many positions, he can actually cover a lot of positions but he also has excellent ball control, something that is a rarity for a central defender in this day and age of football.

The defender loves to make a pass out from the back and set up attacks, again something that only the top defenders would be able to do. He does possess a great heading ability, another plus for someone who plays in defence, but he does have a few issues with his game. His concentration levels aren’t the greatest and that could prove to be a problem if he comes up against the likes of Sergio Aguero or Diego Costa in the Premier League.

He also has a habit of jumping into tackles, unnecessary ones that could also be exploited by the best players in the Premier League, either way, if Arsenal do sign him, he would be an excellent and economical buy but would need some work before he can be considered as the option that will make Arsenal defensively sound next season.
