Fred and Sanchez to start – Strongest 4-3-3 Manchester United line-up to face Leicester City

Manchester United Predicted XI vs Leicester City

It’s going to be a test for Manchester United right from the start, as Mourinho could be forced to deploy a depleted squad against the Foxes. The Red Devils are missing a number of first-team stars through injury and extended post-World Cup holidays.

It will be interesting to see what line-up the Portuguese manager fields against Claude Puel’s Leicester City. Mourinho has made a couple of signings this summer, of which only Fred is expected to start the game.

New signing Diogo Dalot will miss out through injury, so will the likes of Antonio Valencia, Nemanja Matic and Marcos Rojo. Other first-team stars such as Ashley Young, Paul Pogba, Romelu Lukaku, Marouane Fellaini and Jesse Lingard are not ready to feature after competing for their national teams at the World Cup.

Probable Manchester United XI

Manager: Jose Mourinho

Formation: 4-3-3

David De Gea (GK)

The Spaniard endured a disappointing World Cup but will return in goal for Manchester United. He is the current Golden Glove holder and will be aiming for a repeat performance.

Luke Shaw (LB)

Despite the criticism surrounding Luke Shaw, the left-back is expected to start, given the shortage of defensive options in the current squad.

Eric Bailly (CB)

The Ivorian was impressive for the Red Devils last season but his campaign was cut short due to a number of injuries. He should be aiming for a regular role this season.

Chris Smalling (CB)

With the transfer window now shut and with no new defender coming in, the manager might have to go with Smalling given that there is no other first-team centre-back available at this point.

Chris Smalling and Paul Pogba

Matteo Darmian (RB)

The right-back has barely featured under the former Chelsea manager, but might get a start due to the shortage of defensive options.

Ander Herrera (CDM)

He is not a defensive midfielder but the Spaniard might be deployed in a deep defensive role for the first game as 4-3-3 is the safest option for Mourinho to consider.

Fred (RCM)

The only Manchester United new signing that will feature for the team on the opening day. Fred is a talented midfielder and all eyes will be on him to produce something brilliant.

Andreas Pereira (LCM)

The youngster has played the role in the pre-season, which means Mourinho can choose to start him for the opening game of the season.

Juan Mata (RW)

The underrated Juan Mata should start on the right-wing given Martial’s controversial situation at the club.

Marcus Rashford (ST)

The young striker cut short his holiday in order to help the Red Devils and should lead the line against Leicester City.

Alexis Sanchez (RW)

The Chilean has finally found his feet under Mourinho and has started to rack up the goals. The former Arsenal winger took his time to settle into the squad but there can be no excuses this time.
