“Fraud”, “Sacked in the morning”: Some Watford fans taunt former manager after 1-0 win over Everton + Match report

Watford 1-0 Everton: Hornets grind out narrow a win against the Toffees

Watford ended up 1-0 winners in what was a very tight game. Everton had much of the ball in the opening exchanges but to no avail.

Although Watford started the game behind Everton on points, in the minutes that followed, it certainly didn’t seem like this was the case. Watford started looking much brighter and by moving the ball around fluently, they did create a couple of half-chances.

As the half wore on the though, it gradually became an even fixture with both teams going at it to attain the all-important 3 points. Everton slowly began to dominate possession but the game was still extremely scrappy with neither team able to take over control.

Both teams began to create chances and Cenk Tosun and Richarlison began to slowly have an impact on the game. Tom Davies in the middle of the Everton side was exceptional all half, breaking up the play efficiently.

The game continued to be extremely scrappy with neither team able to get a real grip on the game and this meant that the first half was drab. The onus was now on the home side to come out with a response as Javi Gracia made some tactical variations.

The second half started with a much bigger onus on attacking as both teams seemed ready to go at it hammer and tongs. Richarlison was played on, which distracted a couple of Watford players.

Digne played a cross but the clearance fell to the dangerous Sigurdsson outside the box, whose thumping effort ricocheted off the crossbar and went out of play.

As it turned out, it didn’t take long for the deadlock to be broken but unfortunately for under-fire manager Marco Silva, the goal was notched up by the home side. Some good work off the ball led to a sharp pass across goal from the right, which gave Andre Gray a free tap-in at the far post.

Despite the additions of Calvert-Lewis and Bernard, the Toffees were unable to convert the multitude of chances which they created in this mid-table fixture and Watford are clear of Everton by 4 points while they have also played a game less.
