Frank Lampard vs Dele Alli – Does The Spurs Ace Have A Chance To Emulate The Chelsea Legend?

Dele Alli of Tottenham

Comparison: Dele Alli Vs Frank Lampard

The Premier League has always been home to some of the biggest talents in world football and the current generation has been no different. The English Premier League has a number of stars from the country that are currently shining and trying to emulate their predecessors. And one player who is not too far away from doing it is Tottenham Hotspur playmaker Dele Alli.

The 20-year old English midfielder is currently the first choice attacker for club and country and has been in tremendous form this season at White Hart Lane. Playing in an advanced role, just behind the striker, Alli has 19 goals and 6 assists in all competitions this season for Tottenham and has been an important part of the manager’s plans at the club. At his age, he has already defied all odds and is drawing comparisons with some of the best players the country has ever produced. One player to who he is constantly compared to is Chelsea’s legendary midfielder Frank Lampard.

Now 38, English midfielder is among the best in his position in Europe and has some astonishing figures to his name. He has more than 600 league appearances in England, more than 400 of which came for Chelsea. He has 274 goals to his name, including his stint in the MLS and stands as one of the most productive midfielders for England over the years. He has more than 100 appearances for the national side, where he scored 29 goals but the question is if Alli is anywhere close to him?

At just 20, it is harsh for the fans to compare the Spurs star with a legend like Lampard but there is no doubt that Alli has enough potential to reach such heights. A strong finisher, jus like how Lampard was in his time, Alli has some exemplary vision, that sometimes reminds many of the Chelsea man. Capable of scoring from long range, again like Lampard, Alli is also adept at dribbling his way past opponents and setting his team on goal. He is not afraid to do the dirty work and is a player any manager would want in his team.

But what Alli lacks, at least yet, is the way Lampard could drive his team forward single-handedly. The 36-year old is as good a dribbler as Alli and was adept at turning defence into attack quickly. He loved to ping accurate passes to his teammates in dangerous areas and with quality strikers around him most of the time, he managed to create and score consistently.

At the moment, Alli has Kane ahead of him, with the freedom to roam in the final third, this is what might make him the next Lampard. Having potential is one thing but realising it is another story. Alli has all it takes to become one of the best in England and if he can continue to sparkle under the role he is given by Pochettino, he may well turn into England’s current generation Frank Lampard in no time.
