Chelsea’s Frank Lampard To Be Honored Tonight

Share

Frank Lampard earned his 100th cap for England two months ago in a goalless draw against Ukraine. Frank Lampard become only the 8th player to make it 100 caps for England after making his debut in 1999.

It will be a special occasion for Lampard as he is not only going to Captain his national side but also will be honored with the Golden Cap prior to the kick-off which will be presented to him by none other than his father, Frank Lampard Senior and Geoff Hurst.

Lampard was quoted as saying ‘I requested my dad be involved because there aren’t many international father and sons, it’s the sort of thing he’d normally shy away from but with a bit of pressing he’s managed to get himself out there and hopefully he’ll be a very proud dad.
It will be very special, 100 caps was a long time coming, I’ve seen gold caps rightly given to Stevie (Steven Gerrard) and Ashley (Cole) and I’m very proud.’

Steven Gerrard is however ruled out of the friendly against Chile with a hip injury which made Lampard the stand in skipper for Gerrard. Manager Roy Hodgson had confirmed earlier that Lampard would be the captain and he also expressed his delight in making Frank lead the team.

‘It’s a pleasure to say Frank will lead the team out as captain tomorrow night. He’ll be receiving his 100th cap, although it will be his 103rd game,’ said the manager.

Frank Lampard came into limelight during Euro 2004 which was his first tournament as an England International. Since then he went on to feature in the 2006 and 2010 FIFA World Cups. The main question in everybody’s mind is whether Lampard will keep himself fit and be in-form for playing in Brazil next year.
