Fantasy Premier League tips – Three ideal replacements for the injured Luke Shaw

England failed to get past a fluid and cohesive Spain side that picked up a 2-1 win in the enemy territory. Manchester United defender Luke Shaw was unfortunately stretchered off the field after being involved in a nasty head clash.

The left-back was a budget option for a number of fantasy managers. His loss will not make a major impact given the Red Devils haven’t been solid this season. But the former Southampton defender did pick up a goal and an assist in the opening 4 weeks of the season.

As the international break comes to an end this season, fantasy managers will be sweating on who to bring in as a replacement for the Manchester United defender. Here we take a look at three defenders who are ideal options to replace Shaw in your fantasy team.

Jose Holebas (Watford)

The Greek international seems to be enjoying a superior start to the season after picking up 13,2,9 and 10 points in the opening weeks. Holebas has produced 1 goal and 4 assists so far, with two of those assists coming against Tottenham Hotspur last week.

He has proven to be a fixture proof asset to this impressive Watford side and is also in charge of set-pieces. The Greek left-back also loves to maraud forward and whip crosses into the box. Holebas is priced at just £4.8million, which is £0.3million lower than Luke Shaw’s price.

Ryan Bertrand (Southampton)

Bertrand is priced at £5million and has so far flourished under Mark Hughes. He scored a goal last week and has picked up points in 3 of the 4 gameweeks so far. Though Southampton haven’t looked solid at the back, Bertrand is capable of popping up with plenty of goals and assists.

When Southampton play well, the left-back can pick up the odd clean sheet as well. The Saints do have a tough run of fixtures coming up but managers can find a powerful differential in Bertrand.

Trent Alexander-Arnold (Liverpool)

One of the most explosive young right-backs in the game right now, Alexander-Arnold rattled the bar twice in the opening two games and was unfortunate not to find the back of the net. Liverpool have looked well-drilled and secure at the back, conceding just one goal in the league so far.

Trent offers a good chance of points at both ends of the pitch. The Reds have kept three clean sheets so far and Trent looks dangerous every time he surges up the park. Though the right-back has been yellow carded in three of his games, he still is a very appealing prospect to bring in at the expense of Shaw.
