Barcelona Opinion: Three reserves players who should earn promotion to Barca’s main team next season.
Barcelona are bracing themselves for an optimistic 2019/20 season with new signings like Antoine Griezmann, Frenkie de Jong and Neto.
As far as the reserves side is concerned, certain players were able to grab the spotlight at the end of last season while a few have made an impression in the pre-season friendlies.
Here are the players who deserve to be in the main team next season.
Riqui Puig
Not only did he garner attention with his incredible spell with Barca’s reserves side but also under Ernesto Valverde, putting in some impressive displays even with limited opportunities.
The 20-year-old encompasses nothing but pure talent, even to the point that he can walk alongside the greats like Xavi and Iniesta.
Having been a pivotal figure behind the Catalans’ Youth League title win in 2018, Puig has racked up 3 goals and 13 assists so far with the reserves.
The La Masia graduate also shone in the pre-season friendly against Chelsea, showing why he should be with the main team next season.
Carles Perez
Another exciting talent from Barca’s academy, Perez had a great campaign in Spain’s second division last term, racking up 9 goals and 4 assists. Later, the 21-year-old made his senior team debut in the final game of last season.
The Spaniard winger stole the show in the pre-season friendlies against Vissel Kobe, scoring a brace.
With Malcolm being linked with a Nou Camp exit, Valverde should call Perez to the main team next season. It would further raise the bar for fellow forwards Philippe Coutinho and Ousmane Dembele.
Abel Ruiz
Quite similar to Luis Suarez, Ruiz is another important prospect who shouldn’t be missed by Barca.
Apart from his main-team debut, Ruiz is having a great year, as he was part of Spain’s U19 team, which lifted the Euro U19 recently.

Much like Suarez, Ruiz possesses great positional awareness and loves to drift along the frontline to the wings. His stats (9 goals and 4 assists in 60 appearances) might not look healthy but the 19-year-old is made of immense potential.
Moussa Wague
Wague is one of the players who has already etched his mark with the national team. Receiving 17 international caps with the Senegal national team is no mean feat at the age of just 20.
The Senegalese international operates as a right-back and enjoyed an impressive debut with the main team last season. Wague would be a perfect second-string to Nelson Semedo.
