Former Arsenal Target Is Loved In His New Club

Former Arsenal target and Real Madrid striker Gonzalo Higuain who was on the verge to make his way to the Emirates stadium this summer, somehow ended up in Italy playing for Serie A side Napoli. Rafa Benitez landed the Argetine for a massive £34.5m deal thanks to PSG’s £55m purchase of Edinson Cavani.

However, the former Arsenal target is already making his mark with the Naples club and the fans are seemingly enjoying his goals. Higuain opened his Napoli account last week during their 2-0 win over Atalanta. To say the fans are happy with their new Argentine superstar is an understatement, such was their celebartion. I don’t think a player would get such a reception anywhere else in the world.

And the trend continued last night when Napoli hosted Borussia Dortmund in the opening round of the Champions League group stages which they won 2-1 and Higuain was on the score sheet again. After the goal, the Napoli PA announcer whipped the crowd into a frenzy.

Talking to the press after the game, the Argentine striker expressed his delight in beating a stronger side and believes that it was the perfect start to the campaign in what is said to be “The Group Of Death”.

“I’m delighted, to score a goal like that in front of our home fans is fantastic,” UEFA.com quotes Higuain as saying.”It was a very important game for us against very strong opponents, and It was crucial to start with a win and we’re delighted to have managed it. This is a very difficult group, but we’ve started off on the right foot.”
